I have a small KVM switch, for my desktop PC and my laptop. A video and USB plug, no PS/2.

Switching to a Linux desktops works like a charm. The kernel quickly detects the new USB device and it is immediately available to the user in the desktop environment.

Switching to a Windows desktop is a pain. Windows allways needs about five seconds to redetect the mouse and keyboard and activate them.
